When mining for fashion among great leading men, we instantly think of Newman, and Grant, Redford and McQueen; but there are many who’s example we overlook.
Toshiro Mifune was the iconic grizzly faced muse of more than 14 of Akira Kurosawa’s films. He could say more with a dismissive grunt and samurai stare than many would with an entire scene. Off camera, he introduced 40′s Japan to a rumpled American swagger they would never get enough of (and arguably do better than us today). This itchy beard over collar feels so current and smooth, you tell me he’s not a menswear martial artist.

On occasions of elegance, Mifune was superb in tailored suits and decorum. In his later (grossly under-seen) films like High and Low and Grand Prix, these replaced his familiar ronin robes, but maintained an air of impeccable precision.

The pièce de résistance to our lessons and guides, Launderette is proud to introduce its very own instructional bow tying tutorial. With so many, quite serviceable, bow tie videos out there, we knew ours had to be something unique. So in homage to our favorite new wave auteurs, we put together a how-to film with a french twist. It figures Cahiers would have wanted you to know how to get these things around your necks as much as we do.
We hope this inspires a few of you to maybe try an alternative to your bolo. Rest assured, with a little practice it’s as easy as tying your shoes.
* There are a bunch of Launderette products lurking about this video. See how many you can find.

Expert bootsmith and friend, Raul Ojeda opened his own bespoke shoe shop this weekend, and Launderette was lucky enough to attend the launch party. Many fine cheeses were sampled.
Don Ville Shoes is a beautiful storefront, and on-site workshop in Los Angeles, CA. Fine leathers, and walls full of shoe lasts stand at the ready. We can’t wait to see more of what Raul and his brothers create out of them.

Or perhaps you are in Strasbourg with an empty stomach and an appetite for white linens; try La Corde a Linge. La Corde a Linge is a restaurant housed in a former laundry from the 1930s, watch your head and your food as the daily wash dries on a clothesline above you.

There’s a new sock about town, its website, beautiful, and copy, quite witty.
Chuck Butler Supplies introduces its first season of dynamite foot socks. Brooklyn based designer, flag maker, and Teddy Roosevelt scholar: Jeff Butler warns the wearer of his socks are in danger of grave envy, and extreme comfort – boasting to have plumbed the eastern seaboard’s textile mills to find only the Grand Poobah of knits, fabrics worthy of the Chuck Butler name and serial number.
As a man who knows the importance of the right sock at the right moment, Jeffery promises no sock bearing his grandfather’s name will prove “Too itchy” or “Too wussy.” Currently available in five colors, each banded at the hem with its own forked pennant, serial # emblazoned on the arch. These are socks to be sought after. Get your Chuck Butler’s in bulk.

We know technically, Flag Day means stars & stripes, but Launderette loves a good nautical theme. Why not wear some of things you can say with signal flags: “I am on fire and have dangerous cargo”, ”I wish to communicate with you,” and “Come Alongside.”

1. Francis shift dress 2. Lilly Pulitzer dress 3. Flag Banner 4. J. Crew boys’ tie 5. Code Flag Artwork 6. Flag pillows
