It’s Friday again. You made it. You even deserve a little something for your trouble.

Here’s a guy we’ve been listening to a lot of here around the Launderette studio – Lexington, Kentucky’s Matt Duncan. I’ve been to Kentucky and it’s beautiful. So green, so many miles of white fence.
The first time I heard the beginning of this track “Good Times”, I thought it was an unknown Nick Cave song. Matt has so much going on in his voice. It’s some smooth Jonathan Richman, its got a Motown croon, it’s pleasant and summery. We think you’re going to love it.

We invited artist & friend, Michael John Kelly to make a Launderette inspired mix for us. He decided to make two. Here’s what he has to say about Volume 1 – Party Anthems:

“I’ve been nostalgia’ing pretty hard lately. For a purer time in music. You had to dig for good records. Read zines from out of state. Word of mouth was analog. You had to take a chance and go to a mystery show.
I daydream about how amazing it would have been to have gone to all those shows with my wife had we known each other. That life could not be sweeter.
I just had much better taste then than I have these past ten years. We all did.

Things fall apart.

Phil Harder has shot most of Duluth band, Low’s, videos over the years. Over The Ocean has always been our favorite. The music is calm & beautiful, you’re slightly worried about someone getting beaned by a toaster, Zak Sally’s wearing the hell outta that watch… It all seems appropriate to share this overcast Monday morning. We love towards the end when guitarist, Alan, glances up as if he’s felt it start to rain. Here’s to everyone staying dry today.

Dual Matts

We should have written about this a long time ago.

The Mattson 2 played that Eames/House Industries party we attended awhile back, and all were very impressed. We never caught their name however, and have been calling them “Super Handsome Band” around the office, til fortunes smiled and we ran into them again @ Hitched.

Brothers Jared & Johnathan make up the Mattson drum/guitar ensemble, and are two of the nicest guys you could meet. Seriously, these two are well dressed sweethearts. Just looking at them you know what it’s going to sound like. Like The Endless Summer hooked up with a Cocktail party and made sweet sweet, smooth Surf Jazz.

Can’t wait to see them play again soon.

We blushed several shades when Matt McMurray* called wanting to make a mix for all of you here on the site, but were even more flattered when his Launderette inspired collection of songs turned out so beautiful and unique.

The Sunlight Echos is cool and spooky, and the whole thing sounds like it’s being played from some magic place underwater. He’s pulled tracks from Francoise Hardy & Percy Faith, the EPCOT Center & Chariots of Fire soundtracks… You’ve really got to check this thing out:
